  1. Make a list of emergency and important numbers.
  2. Know where the nearest telephone is located
  3. Find out about safe accommodation or refuge.
  4. Have spare keys to home and car.
  5. Keep important documents together e.g. bank details, credit/debit cards, driving licence, passports, medical cards, birth certificates, marriage certificates and court orders.
  6. Save money for bus or taxi fares.
  7. Hide an emergency bag (or leave with a friend).
  8. Pack clothes, medicines, spare keys, favourite toys, important documents and money.
  9. Plan when to leave, and discuss this with children, if appropriate.
  10. If possible leave when the perpetrator is not around.
  11. Take your children with you.
  12. Keep a mobile phone with you at all times.
  13. Call 999 in an emergency and teach your children to dial 999 in an emergency                                                                                                                                                                               “You are not alone”.
