Phase 1 of Redevelopment at No. 5 Downshire Place Completed, Marking a Major Milestone in Supporting Women, Children, and Young People

Women’s Aid Armagh Down are proud to announce the completion of Phase 1 of its redevelopment project at No. 5 Downshire Place, a significant step forward in strengthening the support available to women, children, and young people in our community.

A pivotal achievement this year was securing grant funding through the Community Ownership Fund, with the expert guidance of Development Trusts Northern Ireland. This award acted as a vital catalyst, enabling us to attract further funding and investment from sources including Garfield Weston, the Pilgrim’s Trust, corporate sponsors and the remarkable generosity of local businesses and individuals. Together, these contributions allowed us to realise the aims outlined in our Strategic Plan.

The newly restored premises have already begun providing a safe, welcoming, and uplifting environment for those who turn to us in times of need. This phase has transformed the building into a vibrant space that reflects our commitment to offering #SafetySupportHope to everyone who walks through our doors.

Designed with both comfort and dignity in mind, the new facilities include thoughtfully created areas that help foster calm, connection, and emotional wellbeing. The transformation also supports our dedicated staff team, who now have an enhanced environment in which to continue their vital work alongside those they support.

As work continues, planning for Phase 2 will soon begin. This next stage will focus on expanding and enhancing the support infrastructure at No. 5 Downshire Place to ensure that no one facing crisis, trauma, or vulnerability is left without a safe and supportive place to turn.

Once all three phases are complete, the transformative development will see both No. 5 and No. 7 Downshire Place fully refurbished and fit for purpose, while also creating a new Children and Young People’s Hub. This dedicated space will provide a much-needed, trauma-responsive support service tailored to the complex needs of children and young people affected by domestic abuse.

We are now at a critical stage – one that will determine our ability to ensure women, children and young people continue to access our specialised services within an environment that enhances recovery, inspires hope and fosters resilience, enabling each person and families to rebuild and thrive. There is still much to be done.

The organisation wishes to extend sincere thanks to its funders, partners, staff, volunteers, and community supporters who have made this progress possible.
